Introduction

Enginuity is a national charity dedicated to helping employers find new ways to close the skills gap across the UK engineering and manufacturing industry.

It combines a unique approach to sector data with a deep understanding of skills challenges, to help employers ensure the sector has a highly skilled, globally competitive workforce now and in the future.

The Challenge

The charity approached Fluff Software to create an engaging and fun online platform to encourage young people to take an interest in engineering and manufacturing.

The perceived project, Enspire City, challenged us to create an interactive world through which children would be excited to learn about real-world applications of engineering.

Balancing engaging, educational content with a fun, accessible platform aimed at young people, the team at Fluff would need to utilise all of our wide-ranging experience across various disciplines.

The Solution

Working with the design team at Enginuity, we brought our experience at Fluff of bringing ideas to life through leading software development practices.

We created an online platform built from the ground up to make use of industry-leading practices, including utilising frameworks and libraries such as Next.JS.

Being a truly accessible experience to all was always going to be an important part of this project, but it wasn’t without its challenges. We were pushing web technologies to their full potential by leaning on gamification and animation, and this all needed to be carefully considered to ensure that we still gave a great experience to those with challenges such as vision limitations.

The project was run in an Agile setup, which is where our team works best - collaborating with the client closely each step of the way to create the best possible outcome.

The Outcome

Enspire City was an interesting project, as it had the challenge of making an engaging and interactive world through which children would be excited to learn about how Engineering Skills are changing our world.

The product itself is a web-based experience, where learning is at its core, but made to be fun through exploration and play.

Our mission at Fluff is to create great experiences through software, and this is a perfect example, where the technology melts away to allow children to get to know a whole new world of opportunities in the engineering and STEM sectors.

Don’t just take our word for it though, you can visit Enspire City for yourself.
